Blight on gooseberry bush???

Can anyone shed some advice on this please?

My neighbour has just dug out and burned his gooseberry bush as it had blight, he now says that mine has too - the fruits have a white powder on them?

Can I solve this or do I need to get rid of the bush......

Does indeed sound like American gooseberry blight.

Can't be cured, but can be contolled.

Problem is this site mentions Bordeaux mix, soon to be made illegal.

Personally I think your neighbour is taking the best option. But that's my opinion.

I agree, I don't like the idea of spraying. looks like i'll be digging it out then!!!!! Thanks for advice

What is the difference between blight and mildew?
I've just been reading that mildew can be treated because it's caused by bad ventilation, heat etc and you can prune it out?
I've just noticed some powdery white on some new leaves of my Invicta. As it's a young bush there's no fruit to speak of yet so what shall I do?

Ooops, I meant to correct it to mildew. I'm sure this is what it is.

The link I gave does mention better ventilation to help control it, but not cure it.

My Gooseberry bush also has white fluffy mould on all the fruit. Is it doomed?

Legal to use only up to 31/12/13, so you've 3 years yet.

I had mildew on my courgettes last year in early summer and took off the affected leaves and they rallied and produced fine for the rest of the summer.
I have been watering the gooseberries ALOT because they're under trees in a very dry bed but I think it's been too much and what with this heat and lack of air flow they have succumbed.
I shall keep an eye and if it gets worse I'll move them this winter.
