Unleaded / Super Unleaded.
« on: May 23, 2010, 12:23 »
Im still having problems starting my strimmer  >:( but the petrol is a little on the old side.  As its time to replace it would I be better getting the super unleaded (or whatever they call it) or is standard unleaded just as good ?

If it would keep a little longer that would be ideal.

Best to read the instruction booklet for petrol recommendation. Ours is definitely super required as regular puts too much wear on the engine. We got a good one brand new (expensive) and don't plan to ruin it by saving a few pennies on petrol. Your booklet will also tell you the proper oil to petrol ratio. If you haven't the booklet, try online as many brands will post this sort of info.

The manual for what its worth just specifies "unleaded".

Its just a cheap and nasty one Trillium, it gets used 3-4 times a year and every single time I come to use it I spend a week or so trying to get it started.  If I could justify replacing it I would. I need to empty the petrol can out somewhere before I can get some more >:(

That doesn't help the owner much does it as super and regular are both unleaded these days. I wonder if part of the start up problem is because you've used regular in the past? Most 2 stroke engines take regular but there's something about strimmers that requires super. We had to buy a special little petrol can just for super for our strimmer.
