I just happen to have no drawing skills at all, and am inclined to lose bits of paper, so Excel is an easy way to plan the plot and keep notes about sowing and planting dates etc all in the same place.

There is not a single calculation or formula in it; I just happen to be happier moving text-boxes around on a "virtual plot" than using a pencil and paper, and I always know where to find it!  ;)

Personally I use Word  ;)

An Excel plan?  Bah humbug.  :tongue2:  You could plan it down to the finest detail or you could just go with the flow.  Hardly anything these days grows according to plan.  How would Excel take into account the very late frosts and disruption to planting this year?

Grab the freebies and run.

 ;) ;)...experience....?..cannot argue ................. ;) :) :)

We have a small white board in the shed. Raised beds marked on permanently, then veg written in with marker pen. Means it can be redone as and when minds change or crops are lifted. It also reminds you what the heck you planted.

So what is this mysterious "plan" you talk of? I just tend to stick stuff, green side up in the ground.
I generaly just stick things in the ground green side up.

It's the spreadsheet programme on the computer, also useful for drawing shapes which have straight lines for edges
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

As I've only got a small spot (been barred from diggin up the whole garden.....) I think a plan is essential for squeeszing in as mucha as I can - so far things are going in to plan - we'll see how long that lasts....

I drew mine on AutoCad - only 'cause I use this a lot at work so I'm familiar with it. Think I posted it on here at some point last year.

I have a plan.

Rotate the spuds
Grow the climbing beans up a Munty frame [or 4]
Chuck the rest in where there is space.

The best planner is to always have crops to go in. So sow things regularly.

I sow pretty much every month except November. So there is always something growing, being hardened off, and waiting to go into the soil.

I have records of my allotment going back 4yrs on the computer in Word , so crops do not go where they have been before . I think this is a good idea as one gets older the memory begins to go ,so just put the computer on and there you have all the plans from years gone by .

I'm still with the pencil and paper. I have a book I started just after I got the alloment. I draw a rough plan in pencil at the start of the year, then as I plant everything write over with pen so I have a record of what was actually put in and where from year to year.  :D

A person after my own heart -Word is the Way!!

I use text boxes and auto-shapes / rectangles to show which crop went where and when.
Now and then I even add a photo as a reminder.  ;)
