first ever cauliflower head

3rd year trying to grow caulis,first an 2nd year , i planted in spring an got all leaf an no head, this year,i planted in october,(last year lol ) u know what i mean, went to water them yesterday an wow , 8 lovelly white heads ranging from 3 to 6 inches across,well impressed,

If you can see the heads, don't leave it too long before cutting.

In this warm weather, they will soon open & "blow".
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

exactly what happened to me DD my first year of growing caulis and they looked fab then warm weather struck!!  :ohmy: and they just went shooting up and I was so disappointed I just threw them on the compost heap!! trying again this year with my new found knowledge of shading them  8)
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

congratulations.
on monday one of my plot holders harvested a overwintering flower head which must be weighing 2-3 kilos  :ohmy:.
Never grown caulis! but "it is time" this year.
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

Out of interest... which variety have you had the success with?  Useful to know!!
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

I've got some perrenial caulie plants which are supposed to produce in autumn as any one tryed these, i got them from Victoriana Nurseries on the internet :wacko:

I planted 5 Patriot cauli's last september under debris netting, and picked 2 lovely heads earlier this week. Looks like the others are on the way. First time I've grown them for about 30 years  :) Last time I tried, I had no luck at all.

well i have ties the leaves together at the top , so covering head , will that stop them opening do you think

thats it! I am gonna grow overwintering caulis this year. Just a daft question. are they different variety seeds from the normal summer caulis? when do you start them off?

These are what I normally grow. This particular variety have a long growing period and need to be sown from now until June. One packet does me 2 1/2 years.
