Tom thumb lettuce
« on: May 20, 2010, 21:02 »
Just finished a batch of these in the poly but although they grew well and looked good, they only lasted the day they were cut the day after they were going brown and looking manky.

I like this type of lettuce more than iceberg but I would like to know a variety that keeps at least two days

Anyone have any recommendations  ???

Little Gem is a good keeper, not that they stay around for very long once cut!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've tried growing Tom Thumb for 2 years now but with no success. Not one  germinated.
Can only think  the seeds were no good.
I started out with nothing.....and I've still got most of it.

Little Gems are fantastic. Great flavour and texture. Can't imagine wanting to keep one for longer than the few minutes it takes to make a salad! In fact, as long as it would take Beetroot Queen to eat a whole packet of rolos on her own if she was really going for it.

Not sure what might be wrong with your seed, Willowman. I've been using the same packet of Little Gem seeds (from the recently much criticised T&M, so credit where credit's due) for three years and they're still all germinating.
