rhubarb

Loads of salad leaves - got a raised bed that is just for salad leaves: about 1/3 being harvested and used at moment, 2nd sowing in next section in a few weeks or so. Just a mix of about a dozen different varieties of lettuce, other leaves, beetroot, herbs etc.. mixed up at random, and just wanting the leaves. Good "cut and gro" which has allowed me to select what I want in there, rather than the commercial "cut and gr" seed packets. Have been working through that for about a month now and it's just wonderful.

Purple sprouting broccoli.

Parsley, coriander, basil, tarragon, chives, sage

Asparagus.

Leek thinnings: some of the thin grassy ones initially but now have a few trays of thicker stemmed leeks (the ones I am not going to plant out - grown just to eat so early on in their short lives): lovely in salad or sauteed.

Pick the first 2 strawbs of the year today. Wasn't overly impressed though  :( hopefully they'll get better as the year goes on.

Asparagus! Yeaaaaaa!!!
I have waited about 12 years to get a bed devoted to asparagus; planted it out last year and am now trying to pick "thinly" this years crop. Hubby and I seem to disagree as to what "thinly" means!

Lucky bu**er, I sowed my asparagus from seed last year ... not gonna tell you how many years I've waited, more than you ;) .... looks brilliant this year, amazed it survived my growing and transplanting abilities :D

Still have to wait until next year before I can even contemplate picking a spear and cooking it in butter with garlic .... *meanders off into dream world* ... it's worth the wait, nothing tastes quite like it ;)

You're such a tease! Thanks for reminding me that it'll taste like heaven ... next year ... at the earliest. It's killing me watching it all turning into fronds, but worth the wait :'(

If I could only plant one veg it'd be asparagus ;)

We had folk staying last night (a friend of a friend) and I went to show them our veg patch and the cucumbers that were forming...... and tho and behold there were 2, yep 2 cueŽs all ready to pick..... IŽd missed them, how I do not know.  We had one with a salad yesterday, using the yellow and red chard to add interest to the shop bought lettuce.
We have a few peas coming- this year is going to be a bad crop I think.   We have a melon the size of an orange- I think it is a melon!! It might be a pumpkin   Will know when it gets bigger.  The proper pumpkin has 2 or 3 pea sized pumpkins growing.  I picked the first courgettes today too.
Pamela
ps the first toms will be ready to pick very soon too :D
