T & M Leek seeds
« on: May 18, 2010, 16:08 »
I sowed a second lot of leeks, opening a brand new pkt of T & M Musselbugh leeks....4 came up out of a whole packet :(.............I've waited a few more weeks in case they were just late......but still no more. I have just phoned them and they are going to send me a new packet.........good customer relations, but doesn't help if the seed is still duff :(

The first sowing was from an old opened packet and they had really good germination, it makes you wonder doesn't it

That is really poor.
I chucked in 40 into a seed tray from a 3 year old opened pack and got 36 germinated.

Mind, my carrots are a fail this year.

Got my Mussellborough from Marshalls this time germination pretty much 100% dead chuffed. Why Marshalls? Pure chance they were the first ones through the door could just as easily been any one of the other postal catologue favourites.

Glad you have another packet coming.

You could try a few on damp tissue in a saucer first to check they are viable before sowing them properly

I sowed two rows of parsnips this year. The rows were 8 inches apart so pretty much same conditions. I sowed three seeds per station 4 inches apart.

One row was a new packet of T&M the other was a two year old packet from Unwins.

75% germination from the T&M new seed and 95% from the Unwins old seed.
