I'm trying to mend this Howard rotavator to use on my allotment

but the wheel is broken

what is the name of that part of the wheel, so that I can search for a replacement?

I would call it a hub  and thats a tapered cotter pin that holds it on to the drive shaft . I hope the picture is taken with the wheel part way off otherwise the shaft has sheared, there should be a flat on one side of the drive shaft for that cotter to tighten into.

That's right the drive shaft is cylindrical but with a flat bit where the pin sits.  As I hope you can see from the pic, the area on the hub where the tapered pin sits has just broken away.  The drive shaft looks fine though.

Is there anywhere in SE Wales that might sell or be able to source a new hub?  Otherwise I guess it's a case of waiting for another one to come up on ebay!

Thanks

Any half decent engineering unit would be able to fix that for you, or at worst machine up a new hub

Thank for that.  It's collection only from too far away, so I'll keep looking, but thanks for the heads-up.

Its often worth just asking the seller if they will post it, and if you have worked out the cost and options allready it saves the seller doing it.

It has worked for me in the past both as a seller and a buyer.
