Update and some advice....
« on: May 12, 2010, 11:12 »
Not been on for a looong time.

We had to abandon our allotment as it was taking far too much time and effort and it was a constant battle against the hooligan poulations of both bunnies and humans  ::)

So we are having a go at container veg this year in the garden. (we rent, so unfortunately can't dig the garden up!).

I have potatoes in bags doing well, along with peas, rocket and herbs. I'm just starting off leeks and salad greens

I will be getting toms, peppers and maybe a couple of courgettes.

The advice I'm after is this: What would be best for growing courgettes and leeks in?

I have some of the reusable grow bags which take over 70lts of compost each and are about a mtr long. Could I grow a courgette at each end of these? Could I do leeks in these too? I thought about getting some more of the reusable potato bags, but not sure if they allow enough space to be worth it.

Also, I'm planning for when we go away for a fortnight in June.

Has anyone used this irrigation system? Will it do the job for about a dozen pots? Enough for them to at least survive if we do get a dry spell (maybe wishful thinking, but not unusual for mid june  ;) )

Thanks!

Many people use Ikea bags and you can buy polythene pots of all sizes too. They are a bit like thicker bin bags but with a flat base and drainage holes, very cheap!
