Fuschias
« on: May 09, 2010, 18:39 »
Hi All,

OH planted 2 different Fuschias into freshly dug ground 3 weeks ago. After roughly 10 days, the lower leaves started turning brown, now they are brown and shrivelling.
They have had regular water and some Fish Blood Bone sprinkled around the ground shortly after planting.

Any ideas please ?

It maybe too cold for them :( Fuchsias are raised in heated polytunnels along with the other summer bedding and now yours are out in unseasonably cold weather.
Can you pot them up and bring them in for a while to recover? if not then cover with fleece and hope for the best.

If your fuschias are a reasonable size and still have some alive and kicking 3 or 4 inch shoots I'd consider a safety net!

Snap (or neatly cut) off a 3 to 4 inch side shoot, take it indoors, remove the lower leaves and stick it in a glass of water on a window sill where it wont get baked but will be warm.

With luck you should find that it will develop roots - if all goes well you can pot it up in a few weeks time and have a replacement plant if the parent fails!

Best of luck - works for me!!  ;) ........quite often  ;)
