Good Rose for Container

Just following on from another rose thread, which I didn't want to hijack - I really adore roses but due to limited ground space, wonder how they would do in containers?  Also, would like some that are good for cutting.  And are there any roses that thrive in shade or partial shade?  The only roses I do exceptionally well with are the Flower Carpet roses, which I bought from Wyevales.  Once they are established they really take off, and are anything but carpet roses!  But I have one in a tub, and it's not happy ...

Sadly, roses put out quite deep tap roots so any container needs to be very tall to keep a rose happy. If the main tap roots have to fork or bend in a container then it basically finishes their life (experience speaking  )
