Potato growing
« on: May 06, 2010, 18:14 »
Last year I grew potatoes in bags and half barrels using compost. This season I intend to grow the potatoes directly in the ground. Is it ok to use the same compost from last years bags and barrels? or should I use new compost and earth for rowing up? Is there any rick of disease If I use old potato compost?

I just use the soil from between the rows.

Make a shallow trench.  6 inches is deep enough and plant your potatoes 6 inches down in that.  As the stems grow up fill in the trench with soil from between the rows and continue earthing up until it's a mound.  Job done :)
