Are my tomatoes too scrawny?

I planted tomato seeds (a variety which can be grown in hanging baskets, not one needing support) about a month ago.  They've come up beautifully, but I'm wondering if they're getting too tall and skinny rather than fattening themselves out a bit.  they're about 6-7" tall, all with several leaves on top of a long thin stem.  They're kept next to the window in a warm, south-facing room so lots of light. 

I've been googling to find out about what to do about planting them out, (which seems to not be for a little while yet, is this right?) and all the pictures seem to show lovely fat, bushy little plants, not like my gangly lot!   Are they ok as they are, or is there something I need to change?

I don't have a camera unfortunately, so can't post any pics. 

Eventually they'll be planted in hanging baskets, but I can't repot them straight into the baskets now because 1) I haven't actually bought the baskets yet, and 2) I can't work out how to wedge hanging baskets full of tomatoes upright in my spare room... oh for a greenhouse :-)

Would it hurt them if I repot them now into bigger pots, then eventually into their baskets?  Is too much repotting a problem? 

And how deep can I bury the stem?  enough to bury the seed leaves?

I always take the seed leaves and even some true leaves off and bury the plants deep.
Tomatoes do not mind a bit of rough treatment.
