I'm growing cues for the first time..."Long White" which has a white skin and is outdoor.
3 seeds to a 3" pot and they all grew. Today I thought I'd repot as they're 4" high with one set of true leaves but I was mindful of the advice given about not re-planting deeper than before as the stems don't like it.
There are little white nodules at the base of the stem that are clearly root nodules so I did cover them. Dividing them was a bit difficult but I thought I'd got all their root balls ok.  They started to flop and look really sad and I thought they might be goners.
Then I thought it might be the sub-Arctic wind....(I was potting outside)..so got them back in the kitchen.
Tonight they've all recovered and we're all happy again!!!
Better leave the hardening off for less windy days!!!

You can put a little compost over the knobbly bit.....as long as you keep this bit dryish.
It's the keeping the stem dryish that's the important bit I think, so I only water from the bottom while they are in pots, and into a sunken pot once planted. I also plant on a mound so the stem stays dry.
Good luck and I hope they stay happy, fussy types that they are  ::)

Read this and remembered I had left one outside standing in a saucer of water

Just dashed out and took him back into the safety of the greenhouse

I've run out of room, so I am going to plant with a cloche outside.
