I thank you all 4 your advice. I am happier that I know what i am facing ,if it isnt going to affect what I grow then i will live with it and keep pulling it out. might never be a greenfingered expert but i can always brag that i can grow marestail, should be renamed devils tail, it sure goes down far enough. :D

In the past I have used some stuff called Casuron 4 for which I then lost the supplier. I saw it last week in my local nursery. It is in granular form and I sprayed the weed then covered it with grass clippings so's my cats didn't get it on their paws. That seemed to work - so if Doff is out, try this.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Looked at at the Wilkinson site - nice Zoom on the product page (Link)so I can read the small print :)

It seems to have Glyphosate in it ... so I assume they have reformulated it since Ammonium Sulphamate has been banned.  IME Glyphosate, whilst brilliant for most weeds, doesn't do a  lot for Marestails :(

We used to have this in our previous garden. We bruised the stems then sprayed with glyphosphate (we found roundup the best). We did this constantly every time we saw a little bit sprout up. Although we didn't get rid of it completely, we definitely reduced it and held it at bay, although we did only do this for a year and a half before we moved house. I think the trick is to not let it get too big.
