Cucumber Advice Please!

Cucumber Advice Please!

Sowed some cucumbers last sat and all four seeds are now going on for three inches tall! Well chuffed! My question is - I know they need to be kept warm, at what point can I transfer them into grow bags in our unheated greenhouse?

My cues have been in the greenhouse for abut 3 weeks now and they are happy out there

South Essex is a tad warmer than Bradford though!
I'm still doing the out during the day, indoors during the night, thing at the mo....maybe I'll chance them out all the time after this cold snap.
Cucumbers are a lot fussier than tomatoes though...so be warned  ::)

Going to pot them on tonight or tomoz  - will they be ok out of the propagator if I keep them inside?

Yes, just keep them on the window ledge, but not bright sunlight, for a while.
Good luck....we all need it for cucumbers  ::)

One of my cucumber seeds has just popped through, it's on a South facing windowsill. Should I move it to somewhere out of the sun then? I've only ever bought plants from the GC before, so this is my first time from seed.

If the windowsill gets very hot on a sunny day then I would move the seedlings, or they may frizzle while they are little.

If your greenhouse is near the house (rather than on the lottie!) I would be inclined to put them in the greenhouse during the day - where they will get a nice even light - and then bring them in if the night time temperature in the greenhouse is likely to fall below 10C (I don;t know how good greenhouses are at insulating, perhaps 2C above external temperature?

Beware that the forecast has some leeway in it! so perhaps 8C forecast would be the point to bring them in for the night?

Didnt look very happy about being on the windowsill today - potted them up so theyre a bit more robust and back in the propagator for a bit longer methinks. Greenhouse is at bottom of garden - so thats a good tip ta! Might try to ween them off it once the first true leaves have set? On a brighter note, I think Ive spotted the celery peeking through!  :)
