Clifford Mk1, I think.
« on: April 30, 2010, 18:38 »
Hi Guys,
Im new here and as usual for a newby am looking for some advice.
I have a Clifford Mk1, well thats what I bought it as. What I am trying to find out is which engine is on it.  I know its Villiers but am unable to find any plates to identify it.
It ran but has stopped, has anyone got a manual for it or can anyone help me identify the engine so I can get a manual and share it with you guys.
I have attached pictures, please ignore the tyres they are wheelbarrow ones used to roll it around, will put some 300's on if I can find them.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the site, sadly that sites not working.

Got it running again, fitted new spark plug and it runs ok, bit lumpy but runs. I think the carb has a probem as it dribbles a little fuel but hey at 50+ years its going to go back to work.

It would still be a great help to get hold of the engine details and manuals, if I find any I'll post copies for all to share.
Cheers,

Spares will be availible but at a cost, even new coils ect. Off out right now but i will consult the bible (70 years of garden machinery, not "the" bible) and see what engine these had origonaly
always have a target
and an objective.

The mk1 had a 80cc JAP motor and when launched in 1954 cost £68 10s
In 1955 a villiers 147cc two stroke was offered as a option,
Ridgers, hoes, mowers and a hedge trimmer were available as attachments.

Hi,
I have managed to find the attached diagram for a Villiers 25C 2 stroke engine as fitted to a Allen Sythe. So far this is as close to the proper thing as I have found so far.

I am still looking for a proper manual for the Clifford Mk1 but as I find anything useful I'll add for all to share.
Cheers,
