Out of three currants in a row only one has this curling and bunching up of leaves. It's otherwise healthy with plenty of flowers, and I've checked for aphids and caterpillars.
Did I see a thread on here recently about this?

Currants are a bit different than the thread you were thinking of. What you have are currant blister aphids. These are pale yellow and live on the underside of the leaves where they feed by sucking sap. They also secrete chemicals into the foliage which causes the puckering and distortion. When you see the distortion, it's too late for treatment but the good news is that it doesn't affect the cropping. The insect stays on the plant until July when it changes and flies off. But it returns in fall to lay eggs so this winter give all your bushes a thorough lime oil and sulphur wash and this should kill off most of the eggs.

Just had to add....my chickens SUDDENLY started ripping leaves off the currant bushes when they had shown no interest for 2 years. I've now chicken wired them all.
Could they have been after the aphids? They only ate a couple of leaves but managed to pull off flowers too.
Boy, was I cross!!!
