I am new to allotment growing so have a question. I planted beetroot seed on 25th March in seed tray, the second set of leaves are out on most of them, Can they go straight in the bed or do they need potting on until they get a bit bigger?

anyways if you had time to do the beetroot plugs I would assume you can harden it straight of the plugs and put them in the ground.

I think beetroot are a bit more tolerant of being replanted than say carrots, which tend to not like it. If you plant them before the beetroot bottoms out in the module you have sown it in you should be ok. It does allow you to get decent spacings and know what is beetroot and what are weeds. I seem to have so many weed seeds in the soil that if I plant stuff direct I have probs identifying which is which.

I'm growing mine in modules too, I may direct sow some too. I'm hoping the kick start will mean I get a better offering than the marble sized effort last year!

I always do my beetroot in modules and never had a problem. I always put them in at the two leaf stage to be honest, straight into the ground. They are pretty hardy!

I always sow mine direct, they are quite obvious as little seedings as they are purple, so if purple do not weed.

I do a bit of both: paper pots indoors and direct sow a little later. Results are much the same.

No need to pot on, just do as carrotcake says!

I sowed my first lot direct on 7th April, but have not seen any seedlings yet and last night I found one of the cats digging around in the row   

Should they be up yet? I'll be starting again in modules just in case.
