Pea problem

Hi, I started my Peas off in pots in the house, i transplanted my first batch into the garden a couple of weeks ago and have been doing very well, they're about 6ins and are starting to climb! Unfortunately I checked on them this morning only to find that 3 of them had been bitten off half way down. 

I've noticed a few wood pigeons knocking about and we have mice about too.

Can anyone offer advice on how best to protect them.

It will be birds i always have bother with them,I have a lot of bits of wire mesh i have to put up as soon as i put them in,then as soon as they outgrow these i have to cover the whole lot with a cage.Jackdaws are my main pest they can strip a row of peas in no time.
