If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Salad leaves, radish, and rocket are always pretty expensive in the shops but then again no point growing them if you don't like them!  :blush:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Salad crops are relatively easy to grow and expensive to buy;
Courgettes are probably the most productive and not too hard to grow;
Peas are a bit more of a fiddle as you do need to pick twice a day once they get to producing and have lots of freezer room but cash wise they are a good saver.

Depends on the space you have, your talent and what your family eats though as to what will be the most productive for you.

Grow the ones you like that are easy enough and yet the most expensive in the shops when in season.

For me it's always the summer fruit and veg that get me excited. Courgettes, turnips and sugar snap peas are going to be the main thing this year but I also look forward to the gooseberries and blackcurrants.  Gooseberry and custard tart will be the first thing on the menu ::)

It's funny how I can't wait for the courgettes despite being completely overrun with them by late summer and basically becoming sick of them!

Leeks and Sweetcorn as you then notice how the shop bought variety is so bland in taste.
