Soaking the modules before transplanting always works for me.

I try to push them up rather than pull them out and soaking (as already posted) helps as well.
If the roots are out of the modules at the bottom, then ideally they would have been potted on sooner :)

I've just watched a video of someone using a plastic plant label to push up from the bottom of the module, but they were only tiny plug plants he was transplanting. I tend to half tip the module over, letting the seedling rest loosely between my index and middle finger and tap the bottom of the module to ease it out. Hope that helps

Some of the modules I've seen recently are paper thin  :( and you can't give them a good squeeze and tap without them splitting.

If soaking them doesn't work I think its best to treat them as disposable pots and slice your plant out.

I use a small spatula - picture shows the type commonly sold in garden centres but if you find someone who does laboratory supplies you might be able to buy the type I nicked from work, wouldn't be without it.

'Nullius in verba' - 'Take nobody's word for it'
