Welcome to the site.

I'll move your thread across to the Hen House as it's about chickens.  Feel free to pop back into the Welcome section and introduce yourself properly  :)

The poultry pages http://www.poultry.allotment-garden.org/
and poultry information board http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?board=13.0

contain lots of useful information you could browse through for yourself too.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi CJ

I recently got a few hens and must have read everything there is to read: -

Keep them inside for 18 hours so including overnight when you first get them in order for them to get used to their surroundings.
Worm them just in case. Flubenvet is said to be the best.
Give them a dusting for lice, red mite. Diatom is good for this. It can also be used to dust their coop and bedding.
Make sure you have an adequate supply of layer pellets assuming they are the right age (18 weeks or so).
Feed them some mixed corn before they go to bed but not too much as they will get too fat (a small handful per couple of birds).
Make sure you have and adequate source of fresh water. They drink more than what I thought they did.
Ensure they are secure and protected from foxes and vermin especially at night.

They will be wary of you to start with but will soon get friendly, well most of them do anyway.

Throw the television away as you won’t need it any more as you will spend all your time watching them. Wait till they start laying!!

Enjoy
