You cant give up do you want to go to your grave knowing you were beaten by a humble root vegtable. if you  chit them first you cant fail, they are easy to  grow.  :(

Broke all the rules today.

Sowed old seed late. We'll see what happens.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Let me know.... mine are still in the packet from last year. They looked lovely on the cover picture  ::)

I sewed 5 meters of fresh (Wilkos) parsnips in the ground about 6 weeks ago and had 14 germinate... After careful weeding today (or yesterday), I've double the amount.

I think we should have more faith!

Three weeks ago I replanted a row of parsnips, they had been doing well until slugs or snails I presume sheared the little seedlings off completely.  I thought it would be too late to sow more parsnips, but on the advice of someone who had heard this from someone else at a show, this is what I did, with great germination success! Make a wide drill and fill it with multi-curpose compost. Sow into this and then cover the whole row with a plank, covering all of the drill. Leave this in pla :)ce for a week to 10 days, and magically, when removed, all the seed had germinated! So far this has not been attacked by the dreaded slugs.

If you remember to send them to finishing school after their boarding school you should get some very posh parsnips!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I just keep looking at the seed packet and avoid doing anything more with it - saves all that disappointment and long weeks of expectation  ::)

Ever optimistic, I germinated seeds on  a saucer lined with wet tissue and covered in clingfilm -- 100 %  success.  Painstakingly transferred sprouted seed to 3 ins deep individual little planting tubes, then this weekend, when they had one real leaf, planted 40 out at the plot. Roots were just at the end of the tubes.

Just went down to see how the are getting on and they all look just dandy  :D :D :D

Paid them a little visit and they have two proper leaves so... whew! I might get some parsnips later in the year  :D :D :D :D

Suddenly acquired a bit of space where some tulips have been taken up (they were just plonked in my veggie patch when we moved here for the sake of convenience). So - nothing to lose, and possibly parsnips to gain - I am going to sow some parsnip seeds in this patch and see what happens. I did the same thing in another patch but with peppers - I have one pepper coming up!!!

Might be a bit late for parsnips for this season.  They like a really long growing season.

Carrots, beetroot, some loose leaf lettuce are all low growing  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
