Drunk Chicken!!!
« on: April 20, 2010, 08:04 »
I wonder if someone can help. We have got 2 silkie bantams and have just introduced a plymouth rock bantam. Although I dont think this is related to our problem. One of our girls has gone broody, once again I do not think this is related to the problem as this is very common to our girls after they have been laying. However when i get the broody one out of the house (as often as I can) as i put her down and when she is walking around it is as if she is drunk, staggering around a little and sometimes banging in to things. I hope someone can help with this.

Many thanks

does she get over this quickly?
when they are sitting they go into a trance so perhaps she isn't quite awake. Perhaps you will have to carefully lift her out and just place her on the ground (ideally cold ground) so that she comes round in her own time.
Staffies are softer than you think.

My Eve does this. I lift her out and for a minute or so she sits confused on the floor and then when out of her trance bangs into the coop and anything else that is between her and the food bowls. After eating she is fine, has a dust bath and goes back to sit not banging into anything or looking "dizzy". As long as they snap out of it I wouldn't worry, but if your girl carries on even after eating and drinking it may be something more than her broodiness.
