hi all

all my spuds went in on good friday im not expecting them to show yet but its been quite warm since then with no rain should i water the rows or wait till they appear

dig down a few inches to see if the soil is moist at that level. If it is then there is no need to water.

If you do need to water (which I doubt at this time of year) then give them a really good soak......if you just apply a little then the roots will grow upwards, when the should be growing down to find their own water.

I checked my beds yesterday and they were fine, so no watering here :)

the key time to ensure they are we t enough is at tuber initatiation, before that its not really needed.
its nice to be important, but it more important to be nice......

except that until T.I. the energy is coming from the mother tuber, and come the  time it will be that dry in April we will all be dead :lol:

I didn't die in April 2007, but we had no rain. The nearest weather station I can find did have 0.3mm on two separate days though ... they were clearly more lucky!

I had a little dig in my potato bed today and after a couple of inches the soil is still wet... its been boiling here too!

Only planted most of them last weekend so they are still well down in the ground  :blush:
