Silkie Laying Advice
« on: April 17, 2010, 17:02 »
Hi,
I have now had my two gold silkies for a week.
They are about 10 months old and were laying on a regular basis before I picked them up.
Since I have had them they have only layed two eggs between them, one on day one which I assume was already on its way and one on Tuesday.
I know silkies arent the best layers and do have a tendancy go broody but there are no signs of either of them being broody and they both seem extremely settled.

Any advide or reassuance that this is normal would be appreciated!

the move could have unsettled them, you may have to give them a few weeks to get back into a laying routine (then I bet they will go broody 2 days later ).
Staffies are softer than you think.

try putting either a golf ball or a rubber/pot/plastic egg (available from pet stores) in the nest box every day just to show them where to go and lay. Don't leave it there all night though as being silkies they will then go broody

not really, silkies aren't known for being prolific layers and two weeks isn't long for them to get settled in  :)
