leggy seedlings Q
« on: April 12, 2010, 11:31 »
hello, first year at this. All seems to be be going great. Just a short Q for all regarding seedlings. I have started on the window sills-they are all now very leggy and abit crowded. Is it now time to plant these outside on patch? They are carrots, parsnips, leeks. I have tried transplanting afew to a single pot, but they seem to have disintegrated a bit?
Thank you, Paul

carrots and parsnips would be better off straight into the ground, i have never grown either in pots so dont really know what to suggest there really except maybe if you are going to start them in pots try them in indiviual modules.

Leeks, well i follow the law according to digger dave  there is a sticky i believe at the top of the grow your own forum which will explain all

I agree with previous on carrots and parsnips but now you've got them try putting them out in groups of 1/2 doz. plants together.  That way you keep more of the root ball together, you can thin them out later. Also if leggy put them in a bit deeper.

With leeks i've put mine out in a cold frame in groups of 10 or so. They'll stay there until ready to plant out seperately.
