Identify this plant please!!
« on: April 10, 2010, 19:23 »
I just found this popping from my raised bed last year (I inherited this from previous owners 4 years ago). and this year It is growing from a metre away from last year. dug the last years position to plant some herbs to find some invasive roots everywhere with red sprouts ready to shoot. what is this?
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

is it a weed? quite invasive though. last year it killed one of my plants where it grew. and am planning to grow herbs in the killed plant place.

Looks like a Euphorbia to me too.  It can be terribly invasive but do watch your hands when you pull it out (if that is your intention) as some Euphorbias have a sap that burns the skin.

weirdest garden is ours.. i dont know what the previous owners were thinking while planting these. I even have 3 eucalyptus trees of which i had to bring one down halfway because it was leaning almost into the neighbours.

Are you sure your previous owner wasn't from an alien planet?? Trifid euphorbias and 3 eucalyptus - who needs three,  unless he raised koala bears perhaps?

I have a eucalyptus tree in my garden which I kept to bush size then we moved and rented the house for a couple of years came back to find it 15-20' tall so had it cut down to the ground, it has now grown into a nice bush again.

blimey they grow quick and tall!!
I certainly think they were from down under
we have
1. 3 eucalyptus
2. the above said trifid
3. a aussie yukka which went dead in the big freeze. now oozing gum from top and no side growth at all
4. and FINALLY tasmanian fern tree. which I dont know whether it will shoot or not after the freeze.

it hasnt flowered/seeded yet. And I would certainly NOT recommend euca in the garden as they just grow tall and we have a windy country so it leans very far. The leaves dont turn during autumn and they shed leaves all year (all year around cleaning weekin weekout). apart from their stumps which they become silvery after 5 years and look good, all other stuffs are rubbish. but would certainly offering seeds. They are dangerous trees. I am thinking of felling them as for the following cases
1. they are 13-15 feet away for either of my garage, house (read a document the roots go far and deep)
2. They get plenty of water in this country and they romp. 4 years ago my tree was around 10 feet high and now it has crossed the pitch of the garage already and growing. end of summer will be chopping time me think
