Rosemary Beetle

HI

Found 4 Rosemary beetles today, looked pretty (made sure O/H didn't keep them!)  >:(

I know they devour rosmary which is where I found them, now I'm guessing they are not native to the UK, so where do they originate ?

How & when do they breed ? What do the lavae look like ? (to help me spot them).

The good news tonight is, 4 Rosemary beetles & 1 Lilly Beettle deceased !  :)

Thanks for any help/advice.
Spotty. :)

Hi

Many thanks for the link, it's very helpfull.

Seems i'm in the UK hotspot for them, still, I filled in their survey.

Thanks again, time to go searching for lavae. >:(

This might be a silly question, but why do you feel the need to kill them?
If I found some on my Rosemary, I would be out there photographing them and admiring their colours  :).  I don't get this constant killing thing I'm afraid.
Cheers, Comfortably Numb.

I'm just off down the greenhouse. I won't be long ..........................

Maybe we would like to eat our rosemary, rather than have something else eat it ::)

As always on the forum, each to their own :)

Imported pests are a whole different ball game from natural ones. I suspect there's little enough rosemary (warm weather crop) growing in the UK to spare to them. The beetles will eat rosemary as well as lavender and other similar drought tolerant plants. Once the imported pests get a foothold, there's little to stop them as no natural predators are in place to control them and they can quickly multiply exponentially. And as often is the case, no other creature wants to eat them anyway. In these cases its better to be safe than sorry later.
