Brussels in Pots???
« on: April 07, 2010, 08:54 »
True to form I got excited and sowed all my brassicas a bit early!!!

I have some brussels in modules that are ready to be planted, trouble is I dont have any room at the moment!

I have some empty 5 inch pots that I grew asparagus in, can I pot on the brussels into these 5 inch pots to buy myself some time, Im thinking they would get to quite a decent size in those and give me a couple of months to get the ground free'd up??

All views welcomed

Cheers

Yes, try potting them on, but get them in as soon as you can

With clubroot rife on my plot, I always pot on my brassicas so that they have a good root system before they get planted out  ;)  Most often they go into the 1st early potato bed once they've all been dug up by about mid-July here in Nottingham.  My friends that I share the plot with, plant their brussels as early as possible and by comparison, their plants are monsters and the sprouts are ready for picking long before mine but as yet, I've still enjoyed a successful crop throughout winter  :D

Dont wait too long before putting in ground though - I was early August last year and hardly got a crop, despite being in large well wattered and fed pots.
