hello, mine all free range all day so eat as much grass as they want but if putting in a run then make sure that the pieces aren't too long (this can cause impacted crop)and make sure they have just pellets in the morning.
Staffies are softer than you think.

In my run of layers i put (for 8 birds) one box of clippings...... what they dont eat get scratched around and eventually dries out.

Its not a good idea to put more than they will either eat or scratch flat in about an hour as they will start to ferment if left in a pile.

If chickens are anything like horses this will make them ill....... :)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

Grass cuttings are not a good idea as they start to ferment very quickly making the chickens ill :(Also because, whilst they do eat grass, its usually just the 'tops' thy nip off, so the grass from the mower may be difficult for them to process causing problems with their crop...much better to let them do the garderning. The eat all the weeds, scratch out the moss and trim the top off the grass nicely......
they eat everything else as well, but thats beside the point  :D

i think the Kalahari desert was once a botanical showcase, but they rescued a few chickens and the rest is history :D :D :D :D

i used to give mine grass cuttings in a tray, and remove the tray so they did not have the grass for more than a day when they were in the run all the time.
make sure that the grass has never been treated with weed and feed, or any other chemicals

mine have grass cuttings but its normally only a tray full from the mower once in a while and its gone within a few hours and thats between 20 birds well was  :D. but today they missed out on some as the grass had its first cut of the year .

It is NOT ideal to give them grass cuttings, as they pigg it al down and can get impcted/sour crop. I do give mine a little, but i sprinkle it far and wide, so they still scratch about to get it. A generous pinch per chuck per day. Keep a watch that their crops are empty each morning.
