Would like to know when to plant carrot's and precautions taken tp prevent the dreaded carrot fly.

Plant now and any time through to September.

Either surround with a 2ft high barrier or seal under a tent of mesh. Carrot flies start laying their eggs in the next week or two so do not leave them unprotected. Ignore any advice about timing planting to avoid generations or planting in with onions because they do not work.

Cover them with Enviromesh (fine mesh) which will prevent carrot fly attack. Haven’t tried the raised barrier around the crop but have read that it also works and its probably cheaper than mesh. The little critters also attack parsnips.
