I'm in Cheshire and both my 1st and 2nd Earlies went in on the 27th March.

Maincrop going in next weekend.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

I don't think that you will get frost freezing your spuds in the ground now.
By the time that you get some top growth we'll be out of danger from frost.
Mine are going in this week

Not quite north west but in west yorkshire.

Put all my spuds in last weekend. Will be ok til they show through soil so they have 6 inches to shoot up yet. If we get frost when they peep through soil I'll be out with the frost protection ( have some horticultural fleece on stand by).

Am on the coast near Lancaster and I put mine in yesterday - my dad always planted his at Easter, although I know that's a moveable feast - but the weather guides me.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

the last -3c here last year was on the 28th of may.blackened all the spuds back and delayed them by at least 3 weeks.
moral of the story is plant them 2 weeks later.

I'm almost in Scotland and I already got 3 rows in and fourth will go in this week, plus more than 30 tubers in containers in the greenhouse which are looking very healthy with loads of foliage. If we do get much frost you can cover them with fleece. I bought a roll just in case.

600' up East of Lancaster. First Earlies in under cloche on 8th March - a few just showing. Second Earlies and Maincrop in on Good Friday with a sheet of plastic over them.
