Tilly hen has sat on one egg for the last 21 days. If this egg does niot hatch how do I get Tilly to stop being broody?  Hopw that this isn't too daft a question.

Good question!!!! Not sure of the answer though!! An old farmer pal used to put the hens bottom in a bucket of cold water to snap her out of it...think it worked after a time or two.......seems a bit cruel to me

just leave her she will decide soon enough that all is lost and will walk away when she is ready as long as shes feeding and drinking then she is in no danger.

my hen was broody for over 5 weeks and I didn't know what to do with her!    I got some advice at our local agricultural show and they advised seperating her from the other hens as she was nicking their eggs and sitting on them, they said to put her in a run with no straw or anything that could be used to make a nest; so she'd have no nest and no eggs and after about 5 or 6 days she should snap out of it. we tried it and it worked I've got my chicken back, and said goodbye to the demon chook who attacked every time you tried collecting the eggs.    I thought this was a lot easier (and kinder) than the bucket of water
