Propergator advice
« on: March 26, 2010, 17:24 »
I have a propagator and have tomatoes in it that I planted last Sunday and the seedlings are already a inch tall. Is this normal, I have the propergator switched on all day ( should I be doing this)

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Russ

once germinated, I'd recommend you switch the propagator off and take the lid off as well.  With a good source of heat and fresh seed, it is not unusual for tomatoes to germinate so quickly but now you need to make sure they get good light to avoid them getting too lanky.  Avoid cold draughts at this stage too  :)
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.

I take mine out and put them in an unheated one in the greenhouse till we get some milder weather, with the vents open. They seem to do ok.

I keep the heat on an night to avoid too many fluctuations, but I also have a growlight overhead which gives the equivalent of about 12 hours daylight. I wouldn't put in unheated greenhouse til potted up in 4" pot and at least until the 2nd week in May here in the South.
