am I too early?
« on: March 24, 2010, 19:18 »
Have started sowing some seeds, broad beans, french beans, peas, beetroots, kale and leeks but they are outside in my little plastic greenhouse/cold frame, should I keep them indoors until they have germinated or are they ok outside under cover?

I should think they will be quite happy outdoors as long as they are in the Sun.  But, be ready to bring them in should a frost be forecast.  Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

HI Debsie
Broad Beans are OK outside.
French Beans will get damaged with frost so need to be kept inside until the risk of frost has passed. You probably have sown them a little early but you might get away with it.
Peas, Beetroot, Kale & Leeks OK outside. Kale may have been planted too early but you can always sow a little more later.
Remember to gradually acclimatise your plants to oustide conditions by putting them out during the day for a week to 10 days bringing them in at night when its colder. Try to keep the young plants out of very windy areas or they might get set back.

Good Luck

location can make several weeks difference depending on where you are... would be a good idea to put this in your profile  :)
