I agree this is only my first full year so you will get plenty more experienced advice but I'd be inclinded to get some chicken pellets some Fish blood and Bone mark out some beds and get what you can in could try spuds not sure how you'd get on without chitty, then pretty much whatever you like, peas beans carrots parsnips not too late for anything

Good luck

What's the soil like? The piece of land I'm turning into an allotment is in farming country and the soil looks nice and dark (that might not be a good thing though as I'm new to all this) but once I get the area clear, hopefully by the end of next week I'll be planting stuff. I have an endless supply of manure from a farm over the road so will be getting a load ready to rot down for digging in next year.

Is there any chance that you can get some well rotted manure where you are. If you can get some of that you can dig it in now where you want to plant your potatoes. If you can only get new stuff then keep it in a covered pile to dig in next year.

But like missy says, with some fish blood and bone or chicken pellets you can start growing anything you want. The season has only just begun, so plenty of time :)

Good luck!
