Charity Plant Sale
« on: March 23, 2010, 11:15 »
I'm growing pots of beans/peppers/courgettes/squash and tomatoes to sell at work, all proceeds to go to charity. But not sure how much to charge per plant?  ???

I'd appreciate any suggestions, thanks all...  :)

A quick check of the local shops would be a good idea

I would aim for rounded up amounts and not lower than 50 p.
I found that runner bean plants went exceptionally well, as did chilli and tomato plants.

I'm planning on selling plants too at boot fairs.

I reckon on between 75p to £1 per plant by the time you've bought seed, compost and 3" pot to pot up in. Consider gardeners Delight Toms:

£2.19p divide by 65 seeds = 3.5p seed assuming all germinate, compost 200ml = 5p, 3" pot =5p based on poundland prices plus 5p per seed electric if you get them going in the heated prop = 18.5p per plant from seed to first individual pot. They are circa £1.50 per plant in the shops depending on what you buy so i reckon between 75p and a pound is about right. That should allow a recoup of costs plus 56.5p charity donation per plant at least.....

Good stuff! I did that a couple of years ago & just asked for a donation rather than a specific price. Also raised a goodly amount. Fab to introduce folk to growing things too. Loads of my friends are giving me ready chilli updates!
