Dammit Tilly doesn't have a cold . .

:(  Nah, not a cold .. it's myco.  Lucy was in a right state this morning.  All wobbly legged, wet eyes, runny beak and dirty bum.  Suspected mycoplasma and took her, being the worst, straight to the vet for Baytril.  Correct diagnosis .. so all four being treated.  Crop-tubed the first dose to get it in them (experienced at this through our owl rescue and rehab .. not a procedure for the faint hearted or the inexperienced) and will hand dose from now.  They perked up remarkably fast after the first lot.  Hope we can nail it though.  The vet says he has a goose he's been treating for 6 months   Thanks to those who advised and yes, of course you were right !  But started the garlic too.  Keep your fingers crossed for my girls.  Matilda hasn't laid for 6 days .. Lucy did a pathetic thin shelled job day before yesterday and none since.  They must feel pretty c**p.  Not panicking though.  As long as we get the meds in and keep them clean and comfy they should be fine.

You will need to keep in mind that once chooks have had mycoplasma they will always be carriers and may suffer from it again in times of stress.

PS Chickens don't catch colds  ;)

Does mycoplasma cross infect humans (or vice versa)?
