I agree SG.  If you have no experience of auctions (like me) you could end up with sheep by mistake  :roll:

Find a good local supplier, go and see the chooks (POL, 15-17 weeks is my choice for age), talk to the supplier, check the chooks history and vaccinations.  Pick out the ones which take your fancy and give them a good look over for dirty bums, snotty noses, tired eyes, passengers etc.   Make sure they look energetic and alert.  If you're concerned about clipping a wing yourself ask the supplier if they would do it or at least show you how.   It's really very easy but many people worry about doing it.

Take them home and enjoy.  Keep them in their run for about 5 days so that they know where home is and what they should be eating - Layers pellets for mine with a side dish of oyster and poultry grit washed down with lovely fresh water.  They should start laying when they are about 24ish weeks old, and the eggs will be....

You won't need large feeders for only 3 birds.  The sizes you sugest would seem fine to me .
