Suttons were recently offering something called 'primed carrot seed' and 'pouches' to grow them in. The 'pouches' look to be a plastic sack with some large drainage? holes around the base.

Has anyone tried these? Why would these plastic sacks be an advantage?

I've never seen these before but would assume that they're black plastic pouches which would imitate raised beds or pots as this line is aimed at novice growers. The depth would be enough to give successful cropping as well as easy to locate, not to mention affordable until the gardener could afford more permanent growing containers or whatever. While theoretically handy, I'd hate to see the results if one's cat decided this would make a dandy scratching post.

heavy duty bin bags and a hole punch, or old compost bags would be a heck of a lot cheaper .... but these  do look prettier.

Thanks Trillium and Madcat...what puzzles me is whether you are supposed to place these holey bags into a container or dig a pouch-shaped hole in your plot and then fill them with compost etc....They seem too floppy to stand up on their own if filled with soil.

Why not just put the primed seed into a container?  Their site doesn't explain so I think I will avoid this innovation.
