How long have you had them tamnwill ?

Did you get them all at the same time from the farmer who's given you the meds ?

Are any of them new introductions to your flock ?

All from the same farmer, the Orps and Brams we had from chicks and brought them on in the conservatory..... the others were a few weeks older and so could go outside sooner. The Orps and Brahams got ill first (after going outside and joining the others when they were old enough ( They are all between 5 and 7 months now).  :(

Brought Saffy and Eddi into the conservatory at 10pm this evening and fed them Complan and Dioralyte and via a syringe and plunger, this was to give a boost of the 'essentials' over night, and at least give them a chance of surviving the night before I can get to vet and shops. They both looked at me like I was nuts this morning lol, or was it the cats and dogs for letting them in over night.........but hey the rabbits are in over the winter. so why not lol. Anyway, they're still with us and out pecking around with the other girls in the garden this morning.
I've just been out and looked at the others and they are still sneezing on occasion but their eyes and noses are clear!!!!!!!!!!! Does this mean I should ask the vet to continue with the Tylan instead of the one off dose the farmer gave me or should I get the Baytril ( which the vet said I could collect today)????

Hi Tam, I was lucky coz mine were in quarantine, as I had bought them from auction.

I bought a pair of Barbu D'uccles and a pair of OEG, my friend bought 4 Vorwerk pullets and sold 2 onto me the next day.
It was the Vorwerks that were infected :(
I thought they just had a cold to begin with and gave them soluble aspirin

I picked one of them up to see if it had a temperature, it exhailed and died

I read up a bit on CRD and asked my vet for Tylan or Baytril

He gave me Baytril and it worked on mine :)

I lost the two Vorwerks (the friend also lost his 2) and the OEG hen, but the other three all made full recoveries, not heard a sneeze or snuffle since.

I still keep them in there own pen though

Mine are pets and I couldn't cull them

Thanks for that info Spider. Like you mine are pets so don't want to cull. Am collecting the baytril today and administering it by mouth so we'll see if it has an effect. Fingers crossed x

and make sure you complete the whole course of the ab's even if they look better before the course is finished.

good luck and hope your flock recovers soon - I'll keep my fingers crossed (difficult to type with crossed fingers mind!)

The following tips are based on my experiences only but may help you  ::)

handy tip #1 - if you are administering baytril by mouth please remember to dilute it as instructed by your vet as it is caustic neat - from memory i think the leaflet covers this but just in case!
handy tip #2 - there are tonics available for chooks which I have found very useful to use over the winter months in their water to keep them in good condition and help stave off nasty bugs and may help your girls as now they have had this but they will be carriers and can relapse in the future

Sarah
handy tip #3 - watch for signs of recurrence like a hawk and isolate any sneezers immediately or they will all get it (again)!

You can feed a few of the eggs back to the chooks scrambled.  I will do them good.
