I said before just recently, I would not touch Bowers after what happened to me last year with seedlings dying off. I will stick no matter what the price using Levingtons which has always proven reliable for me.

As has previously been pointed out on this thread and others, the vast majority of us are amateur gardeners.  I am sure that it is not your intention but you are constantly bombarding us with information which is so technical or jargony to be of little real use to the amateur gardener.  This most recent post of yours appears to be nothing more than point-scoring or putting others down according to their choice of compost / cost.

Please could you bear this in mind in future?

I had such poor Levingtons a few years ago that, having used it for years, I switch to Bowers and have had great quality for three years now. My conclusion is that its very much down to the "batch" that I buy. I also cross my fingers as I put the bag on the trolley!

I now make a small hole in the packet before leaving the garden centre to check the quality, as I reckon it will be much easier to seek an exchange if I'm there-and-then. I had never thought to do that before reading this forums ...

Kristen - the number of bags of compost that leak at my local B&Q make me think people are making the small hole to check quality before they buy the stuff. I dont blame them.

I know I'm very confused I've gone cheap and chearful and bought Asda 140L for £6 I'll throw in an extra hand a chicken pellets to make up for what it lacks

Cheap and cheerful is good Missy, it is what I usually go for and I haven't done too badly so far!

Experience will teach you which brands to avoid and which to bother with. Just go for what you can get, what you're able to get to your plot, and what you can afford. Things always work out.
