Never mind TMG, one day you'll find a man that likes chickens and the smell of Billy goats, or maybe a man with no sense of smell?

Mind you I can't comment on that having woken up with 6 cats in my bed today! Oh, and a random cat asleep on the sofa (would love to know who he belongs to as he has no tag, but he is very loving!).

This seems to be awfully off topic though....  ??? ::)

I've been debating between Cream Legbars and Araucanas and think it will be the latter if I add any egg layers later in the year - for now I'm concentrating on the muckers who between them should hopefully give me eggs with some colour in them  :)

I too have a daughter who wants chicks (she is almost 16) and I have told her that if one of our hens goes broody we will get some eggs either cream legbar or araucana as long as she understands that males will end up in the freezer.  We live in the country and lots of her friends are from farming families, mind you hubby would have to do the business.  i have cleaned pheasants after my son had been out beating but not sure about chicks I raise.

With araucanas often you cannot be sure what sex they are until they either crow or lay, which can often be late on so if you name them you will become attached to them all.

i don't mind them being that age as at least they would be a decent size for the freezer and we could probably get away with a cockral as I have recently heard one on a local farm that i had never noticed until I had hens.

I have 5 cockerels and they are noisy first thing, then again at lunch and yet again in the evening, but I live in the country and several neighbours have cockerels so no complaints (besides they are a bit too far away). Where abouts in the country are you as it doesn't say in your profile?
