New Herbs

Well, the herbs are well and truely up, an event which always makes me think of Spring. A good way of using those first pickings, which are so flavoursome, is to chop finely and add to softened butter. I've just done some to put in the freezer...parsley, chervil and chives, lemon zest, salt and pepper, wrap in cling film and twist the ends into a log, store in the freezer and cut discs off for fish or vegetables. Leave out the lemon for steak. Lovely to melt over hot food. Yum!

i am new to garlic in my herb bed.  do i truly need to compost with composted cow manure?  i live in hendersonville, tennessee, usa, zone 7.  i have english lavendar, thyme, germiander, dill, sage, garlic chives, and french tarragon surrounding the garlic bulbs.  please help.  i am using, as a guide, "Herbs, their cultivation and usage" by John and Rosemary Hemphill.

Sounds lovely  :)  That's inspired me to sort out my freezer so it's organised.
