asparagus planting clips?

Hi all

It looks like we're going to be away when our 24 asparagus crowns arrive, and I was looking for a clip of how to plant them in a mounded trench, as guidance for our niece who will still be here. Youtube has lots of clips about asparagus planting but I haven't found one that follows the usual procedure here. Does anyone know of a good clip?

we're away 2 weeks, and crowns could arrive during 1st week... all the advice seems to say to get them in ASAP, what do people think? niece could keep them moist until we're back...

Your asparagus certainly won't appreciate being left high and dry and bare-rooted in their plastic bags for up to a fortnight, equally they won't take kindly to being drowned in a bucket of water until you come back!

They will need to be planted out; their requirements are for well-drained but fertile soil and a trench wide enough for the spidery roots to be spread out (the "mound" thing is really just to help you achieve that, the mound being of sandy soil if yours is a bit heavy)

Other than covering them up and giving them a good water that's all you have to do; it's really down to you and how much you trust your niece!

thanks for all the guidance - we're back on the 8th April and could definitely plant on 9th - but if they come on 26th I don't want to leave them 2 weeks!
