I'm going to plant the earlier this weekend.  Weather permitting. I have got some black weed suppressant membrane on some of it, to try and help warm up the soil.  :)

I whiled away some time Googling the planting of spuds using a lunar planting calendar.

I didn't keep a note of the link, but it said "Good Friday is the perfect time in the lunar cycle for planting spuds" ... seemed sensible to me, for followers of planting-by-the-moon, and then I thought "Surely the Full Moon isn't on the same day of the week every Easter?"

So I stuck my sceptical-hat back on - a bit lower this time, so it completely covers my eyes!

If it's not raining tomorrow my Pentland Javelin are going in, the same date as last year! Decided today as it was so warm out there  :)

I've got enough fleece if it turns really nasty, but it will be a while before they will need covering cos of the earthing up to be done first. Last year all the spuds went in at once but I think I'll hedge my bets and leave the 2nds for another week or two ::)

Contrary to my original thought - it's warmed up so much over the last week, and it's now nice and moist with this drop of rain that I think I'm going to pop a few earlies in this weekend. Arran Pilot, Dunluce & Pentland Javelin. I can almost taste them already.

Having seen the forecast for this weekend I planted my Lady Christl's on Thursday.

Will now be checking the frost forecasts, although they won't be showing above ground for a couple of weeks and should be OK unless we have another mini ice-age!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I'm leaving it till next weekend,
I have the spud area coverd with well rotted manure, which i will rake off before planting, and will put between the rows of spuds when earthed up.

I'll put mine all in on Easter weekend.

The potato patch has been covered with plant-through membrane since we got the site last year.  There is still some couch grass underneath but most of the weeds are very poorly!  I am not going to get time to dig this bit as I still have a carrot bed and most of the brassica bed to do.  So I'm planting straight through the membrane with a bulb planter and keeping my fingers crossed.
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

The weather has been pretty good here for almost a fortnight now so decided not to put it off any longer and put my 1st and 2nd earlies in yesterday, just as a precaution they are pretty far down and left loads of room for earthing up.  All being well and if my back holds out I will aim for getting the maincrops in next weekend.

Started my rows of first earlies yesterday on a gorgeous spring day.

I'll gradually do the other 8-10 rows over the next 10 days or so (2nd earlies and maincrop), hope to have 'em all in by Easter weekend, because I am away. (Have plenty fleece ready though!)
