Is this tree poisonous for chickens run

My husband is cutting down a couple of very tall fir trees (not sure what kind but its the sort that has fir bobs on them) if he shredded them would it be ok to use on the floor of the chickens run?

A possible reason for not using it is that they do ooze a lot of resin which means you could end up with wood chipped chickens.
Pine resin is very sticky stuff.
