Thanks Mandy.

However, when the weather gets warmer and we can get out to the plot - you're on youre own!

(Not really).
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Shallots I am sure will be fine and need to go in to get a long season.

Not so sure about onions - I am sure they will survive frost but it might make them bolt. I would hold off until it is warmer.

Depends on a lot.

Weather.

Chest infection.

Sprained foot. (Holidays are bad for you).

However as it's only early March, I'm not panicing. They went in at the end of March last year and I had my best crop ever.

I see ! Well get well soon and I'm sure those onions will wait.

Do you know if frost will do them any harm because I've looked in John's book but it doesn't say.

The soil here is frozen at the moment but I'm going to give the greenhouse a final clean before starting my beans and leeks this afternoon so later on it should have thawed.

The odd frost won't harm them, but at the moment it's cold, warm, cold, warm...... and as Zazen999 said in another thread, this is not good for onions - and I think she knows her onions!

Thanks

Well I think I might risk it and put them all in as I don't want everything catching up with me as it did last year and I didn't get a chance to sow half the things I wanted on time and it's lovely out there today so I think I might take my chances with them.

I put mine in a fe days ago. The soil was dry and warm so I planted them and then put cloches over so I am hoping they will give enough protection if we get heavy frost.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....
